Two Year Old Early Years Entitlement

The Two Year Old Early Years Entitlement provides free childcare for children whose parents/carers are on a low income and meet the required financial criteria. It can be taken as 15 hours per week during school term time, or over a longer period for fewer hours per week.

The criteria for the Two Year Old Entitlement is as follows:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • support through part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit and an annual income of no more than  £16,190
  • Working Tax credits and annual gross earnings of no more than £16,190 per year

Or in families who do not meet the above criteria but where the child meets any one of the following:

  • a current statement of special educational needs (SEN) or an education, health and care plan                                                                   
  • attracts Disability Living Allowance;                                                    
  • are looked after by their Local Authority                                             
  • have left care through special guardianship or through an adoption or residence order
