OUT AND ABOUT CHAFFORD GORGES NATURE PARK At the heart of Chafford Hundred in Grays Thurrock is a superb area of green space called Chafford Gorges Nature Park. This is about 200 acres of former chalk quarries known as Warren Gorge, Lion Gorge and Grays Gorge together with the connecting land of Gibbs Wood and Wouldham Cliffs. Essex Wildlife Trust has been involved with looking after Grays Gorge and is now pleased to be involved with the whole of Chafford Gorges Nature Park. The Chaffrord Gorges Visitor Centre will provide an important focus for local people and the Nature Park will be an important area where people can walk and relax with friends and family. We know that many local people are interested in trees, birds and wild plants and animals. Chafford Gorges really is a remarkable area for wildlife with many common trees like oak and birch and many unusual orchids and other plants. Over 80 species of birds are recorded including regular kingfishers, owls and song birds and there are unusual things like bats as well as foxes and squirrels. These all add great interest for local people and we look foward to working with you and building pride and respect for this beautiful area. We will produce a local Newsletter to keep you informed. If you are interested and would like to help, then please do get in touch.
