Reducing Parental Conflict
There is strong evidence that conflict between parents – whether together or separated – can have a significant negative impact on children’s mental health and long-term life chances. Not all conflict is damaging, but where this is frequent, intense and poorly resolved it can harm children’s outcomes.
Should either parent have experienced ‘Domestic Abuse’ (Being in fear of one’s safety, there is an imbalance of power, or have experienced cohesive or controlling behaviour), then Reducing Parental Conflict approaches would not be appropriate for those parents.
The Reducing Parental Conflict programme is aimed at conflict below the threshold of domestic abuse. Find out more about the difference between parental conflict and domestic abuse on GOV.UK.
The Reducing Parental Conflict programme aims to support parents to learn how to resolve conflict better so that they can improve outcomes for their children. Parents can be either living together, separated or divorced, and children can be of any age from birth through to teens.
The programme uses videos and activities to guide parents through 3 courses.
