Beacon Hill Academy Post 16 Unit
Beacon Hill Post 16 Unit is part of Beacon Hill Academy and caters for students with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties from 16 – 19. Most students from the main site progress on to our Post 16 Unit
The Post 16 Unit is located away from the main school site in Ockendon and is on the same site as Treetops School in Grays. On-site facilities include a wheelchair user friendly kitchen with height adjustable worktops and cupboards, a sensory room, ICT suite, fully adapted toilets and a ceiling track hoisting system throughout. Students are also able to access facilities at the main site, including a hydrotherapy pool. There are 2 wheelchair accessible minibuses at the Post 16 site
Therapists and staff from the school work across both sites.
All students follow a personalised, accredited curriculum which promotes personal independence and transition to lifelong learning in the community. Together with our partners, Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions we provide a wide range of community links, which include at least one day a week linking to post school opportunities and providers for all pupils. These opportunities include shared recreational activities which aim to be community based, travel training, working towards independent living, volunteering and work experience
All students have individual study programmes that build on their previous education and incorporate their personal lifestyle choices preparing them for leaving school. All students achieve personalised accreditation mapped to their goals and aspirations through ASDAN’s Personal Progress Qualification and Towards Independence Award
We work with partners to support families through the Preparing for Adulthood process and once future provision is identified we will spend as much time as is needed for each individual student to move on successfully. We also support families with information about wider transition issues such as finances, deputyship, MCA and health transition.
