The role of the sports council is to support and encourage the work already being done by us and sports clubs to develop sport in Thurrock.

Any sports club in Thurrock can register. Registration is free and it allows clubs to apply for grants and support.

Grants can also be awarded to individuals, who would normally belong to a registered club, and there may be assistance for Thurrock residents having to train out of borough for a specific reason. The sports council helps fund coaching awards and may give financial assistance for equipment and competition.

Meetings are held on a quarterly basis and attended by representatives from different sports, who then report back to the other clubs in their sport. Representatives include the executive committee, officers and committee members, advisory members, councillors, and our sports and leisure team.
