Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop & Costume Centre Tours
Select Tuesdays
Discover the fascinating world of the scenic artists, craftspeople and costume makers who create the stunning sets, scenery and costumes for the world-famous Royal Opera House on a tour of the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop and Costume Centre.
The state-of-the-art, purpose-built Production Workshop is home to scenic painters, carpenters and metalworkers. Here they make the designers’ visions into reality, creating the many different sets that appear in the ballet and operas performed on the stages of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Set in the High House Production Park in Purfleet, amid beautifully landscaped gardens, the Production Workshop is a fascinating and inspiring place to discover the skills behind theatre set construction and design.
Opened in 2015, Costume Centre will eventually be home to almost 25,000 costumes from the current ROH repertory, as well as historic costumes, musical instruments and furniture from the archive collection. The tour offers a glimpse at some historic costumes and reveals some of the tricks of the trade.
