The Children's Trust – Short break / Respite Services
As and when required by service user
We are the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury. We deliver rehabilitation, education and community services through skilled teams who work with children and young people aged 0-18, with acquired brain injury, neurodisability, and complex health needs. It is our ambition that all children with brain injury and neurodisability have the opportunity to live the best life possible.
Short break / Respite Services
Residential short breaks at The Children’s Trust offer flexible, nurse-led care for children and young people between the ages 1-18 years. Set in 24-acres of beautiful woodland, our facilities include sensory gardens, a nature trail, a wheelchair-accessible tree house, as well as an outdoor basketball court and playground.
We provide tailored packages offering breaks for children and young people, and a much needed rest time for their families. The children we support may:
- have complex disabilities and health care needs
- have complex needs which require them to be supported by a carer or a nurse
- be vulnerable to acute health changes, necessitating in them needing 24 hour care.
Set in a beautiful home-from-home environment, our short breaks offer overnight stays in comfortable, fully-accessible bedrooms, available seven days a week.
Offering flexible nurse-led care tailored to the needs of the child, children enjoy a variety of fun leisure activities, facilities and outings during their stay, and also have access to our on-site daily school sessions during term-time. In addition, we also offer a range of activities including arts and crafts, themed weeks, group and individual activities. Families are also welcome to access our Saturday/holiday clubs which run throughout the year.
A key worker will be allocated to each child on arrival and will be the family’s main point of contact throughout the short break. The key worker will maintain regular contact with the family, keeping them informed of any changes or developments in the child’s care. Parents and families also have access to our Parent Portal - a secure online platform which enables two-way communication and sharing of information between families and the child’s care team.
